SHOPPERS INVITED TO PURCHASE BACK-TO-SCHOOL CLOTHES FOR LOCAL CHILDREN IN NEED
The Clothes for Kids program begins on Friday, August 1 at two malls.
Columbia, S.C., July 25, 2014 – The receipt of new clothes, shoes, and school supplies significantly impacts students who are preparing to return to classes. A new outfit can boost self-confidence and help to start the new academic year in style. That’s why The Salvation Army of the Midlands holds its Clothes for Kids event each summer. This year, Clothes for Kids events will be held at Columbiana Centre and Columbia Place Mall on Friday, August 1 – Sunday, August, 10, during regular mall hours. The Clothes for Kids table at Columbiana Centre will be set up near the Hollister store, near the playground and JC Penney inside entrance. The Clothes for Kids table at Columbia Place Mall will be located in the food court near the playground. A table and display board with cards listing children’s names, ages, and clothing sizes will be set up so shoppers can select a card and purchase clothes and school supplies to benefit specific local children.
“We’re calling all shoppers to visit the malls and purchase new clothes and supplies for kids who live in poverty and children who have recently experienced an emergency,” said Major Roger Coulson, Regional Coordinator/Corps Officer at The Salvation Army of the Midlands.
The Salvation Army is partnering with Coach Dawn Staley, Head Women’s Basketball Coach at the University of South Carolina, and her charity Innersole, which provides new sneakers to children in need. For the second year, Innersole will provide shoes for children who qualify for this program.
Table attendants will be available to assist shoppers at Columbiana Centre on Monday – Saturday from 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. Attendants can assist at Columbia Place Mall on Monday – Saturday from 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. – 6 p.m.
“Thanks to Coach Staley and Innersole and their eagerness to provide new sneakers to children again this year,” said Major Coulson. “We invite shoppers to support some special kids this summer in a wonderful back-to school effort.”
