COLUMBIA SALVATION ARMY RESPONDS TO ATLANTA AREA FLOOD EVACUEES

Two workers to assist in recovery efforts

Columbia, S.C. September 24, 2009—Two Salvation Army representatives from the Columbia Command will deploy to the Atlanta Area on Thursday, September 24, 2009, with the Mobile Disaster Response Canteen to assist in the relief efforts. The “Canteen” is a virtual industrial kitchen on wheels with capacity to prepare and serve upwards of 1,500 meals per day.

Canteen manager, Roy Carson, and Canteen Food Service Specialist, Melvin Tucker, will join dozens of Salvation Army responders from Lawrenceville, Charlotte, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and Greenville. Salvation Army relief services will consist of feeding and hydrating flood victims and first responders. The Salvation Army will also provide pastoral counseling for both victims and first responders. The Columbia Command is scheduled for a seven (7) day deployment.
