Christmas
Our Christmas season begins in October. It is a time of joyful, hectic, never-ending activity.
In 2009, The Salvation Army assisted 8,969 people, over 4,000 families, with food, clothes and toys. 1,553 food boxes were distributed and more than 1,500 senior citizens were visited in nursing homes. Our halls were filled with donated teddy bears, stockings, bicycles and dolls.
One of our most exciting holiday programs at Christmas are our popular Angel Trees in malls around the area that allow members of the public to “adopt” a needy family or child and purchase Christmas gifts for them. Television station WLTX works with CMRTA, Clear Channel Radio to host the Stuff A Bus project. This project collects toys and food to give to those in need.
Through these and other traditional programs, we share the spirit of Christmas giving to those who need it most year after year.
